About Us
Habitat Association is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) which develops and conducts social impact-oriented and capacity-building projects in coherence with the digitalizing world. Habitat is based on strong partnerships aiming sustainable development in fields of technology, entrepreneurship and financial awareness among all segments of the society. It was founded in 1997 by the youth who first came together in 1995 at Copenhagen Social Development Summit and then in 1996 at United Nations Habitat II Summit. Founding vision of Habitat was binding the youths of the world and Turkey together. In line with this vision and with purposes of building the capacity of the youth and going into international partnerships, Habitat has developed many projects and programmes.
Young Habitat volunteers, from 1997 on, have been working on all disadvantaged groups in 81 provinces of Turkey with no discrimination of religion, language, race, gender, sexual orientation and political view. Habitat has been supporting all social groups in building their capacity, providing them with the necessities of time, accessing to the opportunities, participating in the decision-making processes, raising social and environmental sensitivities and fullfilling their own selves.
Habitat, which has been supporting Sustainable Development Goals since foundation, works for promoting the gender-equality by means of empowerment of women, making them contribute to the economy through education-oriented and labor-oriented actions.
In its all actions, Habitat makes contribution to public policy at local and national levels by going into multi-stakeholder partnerships with governments, local authorities, private sectors and NGOs.
Habitat has believed in the efficiency of societies which are organized and function depending on the awareness of volunteering. Therefore, Habitat pioneered in the establishment of city council, assemblies of youth, women, disabled and children, also the National Youth Parliament. In addition to these, Habitat supported the emergence of many mechanisms, such as Youth Culture Houses, TOBB (The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey) Young Entrepreneurs Council and TOBB (The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey) Woman Entrepreneurs Council.
