The GEC brings together thousands of delegates from 170 countries to discuss economic and policy challenges around growing entrepreneurial ecosystems. With live events featuring the latest, best-in-class programming and research, GEC is a unique opportunity to meet fellow practitioners and stay apprised of new ideas, insights and developments. This annual event – hosted by a new entrepreneurial city each spring – is designed so that delegates return home with fresh ideas, tools and connections to leverage in their pursuit of forward-leaning entrepreneurship support efforts.
The GEC is an open, four-day conference that gathers all elements of the global entrepreneurial ecosystem. At the heart of the Congress is a mix of large-scale plenary sessions for thousands of delegates and more intimate and in-depth parallel sessions conducted by leading global organizations helping entrepreneurs start and scale new businesses.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the next GEC will be on April 16-19, 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey — a thriving startup hub that is both an economic and cultural cornerstone of Europe and Asia.

Call for Volunteers
To effectively stage the event, our Congress Planning Team is recruiting approximately 150+ volunteers to perform essential roles that support an exciting week of keynote presentations, workshops, networking, social events, site visits and more.
When you volunteer and join the GEC18IST team, you will receive a limited edition volunteer t-shirt. Volunteers will also be provided with food and beverages during the week of Congress and will also have the opportunity to attend open Congress events when not working.
Discover your role: GEC 2018 volunteer positions
- Hosting and facilitating the delegates and speakers at the congress venue
- Assisting the registration (print, hand badges and potential “amenities” to participants)
- Attending the session rooms, hubs, networking area in case of any need (room setup, open/close the doors, hand the microphones to participants during the Q/A, speakers’ presentations monitoring – same volunteers will be in the same area every day)
- Having a comprehensive knowledge of the programme of the day and escorting speakers/moderators to their rooms on time
- Preparing content and sharing it with social media team
- Attending site visits and helping the coordination of transfers
- Attending to the social events such as dinners with the delegates
- Assisting all delegates before and during the event when needed
Volunteer Requirement
- All volunteers are required to attend a mandatory orientation session on Monday, April 14, 2018 to ensure that they are well-prepared and confident their role.
- A minimum commitment of 9 to 10 volunteer hours and availability between April 14-19, 2018 over the week is requested for all volunteers. Volunteers will work in 2 shifts; 08:00 – 18:00 and 17:00 – 24:00
- Istanbul based English speakers with familiarity on the entrepreneurship ecosystem are preferable.
GEC 2018 will take place in Bomonti, Istanbul. The name of the hotel will be announced later to the chosen volunteers.
